Micro Kote and Tri-Ni finishing

2006

Hello, we are plating alumininum-alloy air horns which have both a LCD area (at bell end) and a HCD area (at threaded opposite end). We need to obtain a 1.2 mils Nickel deposit on the LCD area as EFFICIENTLY as possible.
1) How would you readers recommend that this is done without damage to the substrate from prolonged exposure to the semi-nickel/bright nickel solutions?
2) Would you recommend using a Dur-Ni/Micro-Kote layer or a Tri-Ni layer...or both?
3) What would be the CASS expectancy of using at least one of these extra plating layers?4) Would a bright Copper layer be required if you were adding a Micro-Kote/Durni layer or even a Tri-Ni layer?
4) Would you expect a lot of polishing to be done after a Bright Copper layer to make the appearance look excellent?...assuming that the part has been very well polished Pre-plating.
Thank you so much for your attention and time...

2) Would you recommend using a Dur-Ni/Micro-Kote layer or a Tri-Ni layer...or both?

I would use about 3-4 microns of Electroless Nickel before The Duplex or Tri Nickel.

3)What would be the CASS expectancy of using at least one of these extra plating layers?

You should cross 48 hours of CASS using the above.

4)Would a bright Copper layer be required if you were adding a Micro-Kote/Durni layer or even a Tri-Ni layer?

No, a copper layer is not required if you use Electroless Nickel.

4)Would you expect a lot of polishing to be done after a Bright Copper layer to make the appearance look excellent?...assuming that the part has been very well polished Pre-plating.

Not at all! Forget about the Copper as well.

5)Thank you so much for your attention and time...
You are most welcome.
