Need for cadmium plating of CRES in seawater

Our existing requirement calls for cadmium-plated CRES screws to attach a 304SS part to a carbon steel foundation. In this application the assembly will be sometimes submerged in seawater and sometimes above-water. I am trying to evaluate the need for the cadmium plate, as it adds considerable cost, paid with tax dollars. Thank you for your assistance.

Hello, Gene. Cadmium is a bio-accumulative toxin, and screws should not be cadmium plated if there is a reasonable alternative.

Perhaps the screws can be a higher grade of stainless, or galvanized, although neither is likely to reduce the cost.
