How do I seal brass?
I am an antique dealer and need a way to seal brass. Specifically I have a faucet that I recovered from a home and had the chrome taken off. It is now solid polished brass and copper. What product is best recommended for sealing brass that will be handled daily? Any insight is much appreciated.

Plumbing service is difficult because of constant condensation and dampness, heavy wear, and exposure to numerous cleaning agents and toiletries. If you are willing to let brass age gracefully, it may well be an unsatisfactory material for a faucet. You can put brass lacquer on it but it's probably not a long term solution.
The finishes you see on bright "brass" faucets these days often have little to do with real brass -- they are electrophoretic lacquers or zirconium nitrides on top of nickel plating.

Try Everbrite [a finishing.com supporting advertiser] coating (probably modified silane based). Hope it helps and good luck!
