E-Coat finish problem

The E-Coated parts passed cross-hatch adhesion test on the flat surfaces. But paint scratched off easily on the corner (round edges) by sharp objects.

The cross hatch test check for the adhesion of the paint with the substrate.

It has nothing to do with your observation.

Your observation is regarding the hardness of the coating. Any sharp metal will scratched the paint surface. That is exactly displayed when you inscribe the cross hatch for the adhesion test.

Check the data sheet for the pencil hardness. Then cross check the actual pencil hardness of the paint layer. That will only prove that the coating is being done properly.

Hope this helps.
