Zinc Electroplating
2005
Hi
How well is Zn-electroplating performance in preventing corrosion?
(iron/steel)
Long long would it get corrode if it's under 5% salt spray test.

This depends upon the thickness of the zinc plate and the chromate used to finish it and also if any sealing agents are used. I have personally seen zinc plated parts that have .0002" zinc and are chromated "dichromate" last 120 hours in a 10% salt spray, with no signs of corrosion.

Zinc plating alone will give sst life of 96 to 120 hour in hexavalent chromate.with sealant over chromate you can extend another 20 hours. with alloy of iron 0.1 to 0.4% you will get 300 hours to yellow chromate ( hexa chromate)and increase alloy composition t 07 to 09% with black chromate (hexa chromate) the life extended to1000 hours. this we are practically achieving on a large scale production level.
