Best protection for galvanized roof of old dairy barns?

We have 60-year-old galvanized dairy barns that are starting to corrode. What is the best protection for them. If paint, what kind. We'd like to keep the original look as much as possible.

Hi Dennis,

Have a look at 5d # 38128 .... this is about using asphalt, albeit for a nasty corrosion application.

Yes, I know it's black ... but then if it lasts and lasts, then Black is Beautiful, eh?

I would recommend using a painted finish professionally applied. The surface preparation is very important. I would think that an epoxy primer followed by a urethane final coat would be best. I suggest that you find a good, commercial painter who is experienced at applying these type coatings. You might contact the paint suppliers to get recommendations on both the type of paint, and the names of commercial applicators in your area. Look in an industrial directory for High Performance Coatings to get the name of the paint manufacturers.
