Fluxless Soldering




I am an engineer for a testing company, and am in need of information regarding solder types that do not require flux to be used on a piece of our testing equipment. We use Beryllium Copper electrical feedthroughs to connect electrical power wires and thermocouple wires from outside of an air heater, through a steel end piece, to inside of the heater. The outside power wires are Copper and the inside power wires are type 308/309 stainless steel. The thermocouples are type K, which is CHROMEGA (chromium-nickel alloy) and ALOMEGA (Aluminum-nickel alloy). The wires and thermocouples are soldered to the Beryllium Copper feedthroughs. We currently use a flux and flux cleaner for the soldering, but have discovered that the flux cleaner is not compatible with the LEXAN cones that are used to seal the Beryllium Copper feedthroughs in the steel end piece. The flux cleaner partially attacks and dissolves/destroys the LEXAN cones. If I can use a solder that does not require flux, I can eliminate the flux cleaner and continue the LEXAN cones (which have proven to be the most reliable material for sealing the outside from the inside of the heater. Note that the maximum temperature inside the air heater is 1,425 degrees F. I would appreciate your suggestion on how to solve this problem.
