Non stick surface that ice will not stick to




I work for a hydro company in the Yukon Territory. During the winter I spill water at our dam an have problems with ice build up on our spill gates , am looking for material or coating that ice build up will not stick to

Hi Bob,

You have quite a few (plastic) materials you could consider.

I'd opt for Polyethylene in terms of cost and availability.
But you didn't say in what 'form' you wanted it so I'd assume it's in a sheet form.

But Pe pipe, the so-called high density material, is available up to 5 feet dia. for pressure applications and much larger for drainage.

If it's sheet you're wanting to 'join' to a spillway, ah, you're going to have bolt that down. There is a definite technique, try Prolite in B.C. .... coming to think of it, I believe I have that data, too.

I know the Canadian navy has an ice release coating they use on their ships. If you approach them they should be able to tell you the supplier.
