CONTACT TIPS FOR HARD CHROME
2005
I wish to use copper jigs with titanium contact tips for holding my job for hard chrome plating.I have doubts about:
1.Is it a standard practice.
2.Current carrying capacity of titanium.
3.Will titanium not passivate or erode during reversing(of course it will be protected/shielded as much as possible).
4.Any guide to fixture design for shock absorb. piston rods.
Expert/experienced opinion will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Plain steel tips would be a lot cheaper and would probably last as long and would carry more electricity for the same cross section area of the tip.

Dear James
the tips have M6 tapping inside for securing the job. If made of normal steel will they not get rusted with time.
Please advise.
THANKS IN ADVANCE

Dear Mr. Vikram,
I knows the leading manufacturer of shocker in India, We use to make jigs with copper frame & contacts with spring steel for holding piston rod,for threading you can use PVC molded cap to avoid plating on threading. All frame except contact point should be PVC coated.
In rods certain area which is not required to be plated,so see accordingly contact to be made for current.

Sorry about not responding in a timely manner to your 13th post.
You should not have a problem with rust. Chromic acid is a great passivator and it is really hard to rinse threads.
If you have a problem, for long term storage, use an air wrench and to take the bolts out and store them in an appropriate solution like a water mixture of any alcohol. Keep sealed to hold down evaporation.
