Redoing hard anodizing of a dynamic part

2005

Dear sir
We would like to remove the hard anodize coating of a dynamic part thoroughly and then redo the hard anodize on the above part.
Please advise us if it is technically right to use the repaired part.
Good luck.

The responsible engineer needs to know that the source of the aluminum in the anodized surface is the aluminum of the substrate. Aluminum was thus consumed in forming the original anodized coating. When the part has been stripped, it will be thinner and smaller in dimension by about 50 percent of the coating thickness. The same amount of aluminum will be removed again by the second anodization.

There are non-critical parts that it is probably safe to strip and re-anodize a number of times, and there are parts that it is not safe to strip and re-anodize even once. You call these parts "dynamic", and if you mean that they are subjected to fatigue loading, it doesn't sound promising.
