Looking for black finish on bronze
I am finishing bronze castings using Cobalt Nitrate and a torch. The finish is very nice, but the process is very laborious and the durability is marginal.Any ideas for an alternative finish that would yield a soft black and hold up to a moist environment? Thank you.

See "The Colouring, Bronzing & Patination of Metals" [on eBay, Amazon, AbeBooks affil links] , for formulas for all sorts of beautiful finishes for the artistic use of copper alloys. The photographic plates are a marvel, and should be in the reference section of any art department's library.

Hi, Brad. Plating supply houses can get "Copper Electroblack" for you. I think this will blacken bronze as well as copper.
