Copper plating a vintage brass espresso machine

I'm all theory, got me a physics degree but I know that's not worth spit compared to someone who actually 'knows' something about electroplating. would I be wasting my time trying to do this at home, I couldn't even guess as to what a plater would charge?

any info is welcome
