Restoring white letters on plastic parts?

2005

I am trying to restore an older motorcycle, and was wondering if anyone knows how to restore the white letters that have started to rub off with wear and time. The leters are on the hand controls; white letters on black plastic. My car has them too, on the cruise control switches. On the bike, they indicate high beams, signals, ignition key positions, etc...
I am wondering what the original factory process is for this and if it can be duplicated, as I'm sure that regular paint will rub off in no time. The original has lasted 20 years before fading.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Cheers,

Letters are probably made by silkscreen process, best way to restore them is by hand.If you can find it white letraset letters(some sort of transfers) are good too.Hope it helps and good luck!
