A. I'm not a professional but I happened to stumble upon your question and it reminded me of a subject on a web site I had been looking at the other day. This other site was discussing what is called "molding", filling in gaps and smoothing out welds on motorcycle frames before powder coating. They had the same problems with Bondo and the heat required to powder coat. They said their best solution to this problem was a product called "Lab-metal ⇦this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] " that they applied in thin coats and sanded. It is supposed to withstand the heat of powder coating without any problems.

I have been faced with this problem many times in the past in my coating job shop and as a previous person mentioned, Lab-metal

does work well for small defects. I find it a bit tedious. Another option that you may consider is JB Weld

.
You will need to preheat the item for recoating as it is not electrically conductive. There are other high temp epoxies that may function as well but again preheating is necessary.
