What's the best paint and way to spray Glass Fibre ?

Hi all, I want to paint the new front cycle wings of my kit car black, I have never sprayed onto Glass Fibre and would like to know what is the best primer & paint to use and would it be better to apply a clear lacquer to the final coat of paint? Many thanks in advance, Yan

Hi Yan,

I would think that any old paint would do ....but firstly you'd have to sand or abrade the frp surface.

A better reply would be were you to call up the local supplier of frp (i.e., glass fibres) maybe but resins (i.e., polyesters, vinylesters etc) and get their more august opinions.

Obviously with any high gloss finish you'd not get a too good a bond unless you prepared the surface ... but a primer first of all? I doubt that that is necessary.

Have fun ... and if you kit car is a copy of a Lotus 7, then lucky chap !
