Salt water resistant finish
Q. Is there a salt water resistant finish that can purchased to protect equipment when exporting goods to a foreign country by sea? The equipment will be going to a power plant, therefore it needs to be able to withstand extreme heat as well.

A. The picture shows equipment very much like the ones probably found on board the ship. Most of the time, after a conventional cleaning of dirt and rust, they are painted with a good base coat and several good quality top coats. For extreme long lasting protection, cadmium underplating is frequently used. But protection based on underplating cannot be applied without special cleaning procedures. Dirty, rust very large or assembled items will be a problem or impossible. Upper operating temperatures are limited by the cad and paint. Temporary protection is afforded by mixtures of resins and petroleum derivates.
