What is the etching for Fe-Cr?

2005

Actually I had done vary time to do etch my Fe-Cr alloy with 2%nital acid for looking to grain boundary structure. But until do many trials from 1 sec to 5min dipped my alloy to the solution and then looked up with the metallurgry microscope, the result was grain boundary doesn't showed up. please help me out with this problem. I really appreciate your kindness.

Cheers,

Iron-Chrome covers a wide range of alloys. What alloy are you talking about?
Are you polishing your microsection to a very fine mirror finish?

Perhaps your Cr content is high enough to make the alloy "stainless" so it is resistant to an oxidising etchant such as the alcoholic nitric acid that you have tried.

You are more likely to get advice from people experienced in metallography if you post your query on a metallography web site rather than on this industrial site.
