Cryogenic treated plain high carbon steel verses 2% nickel steel for bandsaw blade
2005
I want to know the performance comparison of Wood Bandsaw strips of (1) Cryogenic Treated Plain carbon steel of the following composition:
C:0.75%, Mn:0.70%, Si:0.25%
VERSUS
(2) Ni Steel without Cryogenic Treated having the following composition:
C:0.75%, Mn:0.40%, Si0.20%, Ni:2%
The performance with respect to (a) Susceptibility to crack development during wood cutting
(b)Comparison of cutting life means quantity of wood cut.
Can anybody help me by providing this information

It's hard to give a definitive answer to your question. Both pieces will benefit from residual stress relief which will serve to minimize failures due to cracking. Because Carbon content is the same, both pieces should see improved resistance to wear or extended life before requiring re-sharpening. My guess is at least 50% increase in life and perhaps as much as 3 times. We generally see excellent response in higher carbon steels used in wood cutting. I would expect that you would see the same. Deep cryogenic treatment of wood cutting blades is something that we see a lot of in the U.S.
