Yellow gold changed color
My mother has two yellow gold bangles, which my sister borrowed. When she returned it back half of the bangle was white and the other half yellow, and amazingly in my presence the entire color changed to white, the surface of the bangle felt slippery and in fact the bagles broke also. My sister confirms that it was kept securely in her locker and she double checked to see whether the bangles came in contact with any other chemical. Could you tell me how this happened and whether the value of the gold bangles is still intact. The color of the bangles resembles the color of steel now.

Sounds to me like it was gold plated and the plating wore off.

Sarkar,
Your Mother may have to tell you whether she had been cheated. For the last 6 years "one gram gold plated jewellery" has gained prominancy in India. There were incidents even banks were cheated in the initial years.
So please confirm with your mother about the authenticity of the first purchase before going any step further.
