About Belleville Springs

We have asked our suppliers to make the Belleville springs but it did not reach our Spec for the dynamic test. 1. Some of them have been broken shortly. 2. Some of them did not reach the Rockwell hardness. I wants to know what are the problems can effect this properties?

Hello, Joyfeng. We can only cover the metal finishing aspects of the problem here, not problems with specifying the metal or the heat treatment parameters or the dimensions.

But hard, heat treated parts must receive an immediate bake after any acidic treatment, cathodic treatment, or electroplating lest hydrogen embrittlement cause the parts to fail under load.

Thanks, Ted

Well, we chose the material which is 50CrVA to make the Belleville springs for our brake production. It is specialized for dynamic force should be past one hundred millions. In our case, do you mean those problems might be caused from heat treatments and not from material? Did you ever have any experiences which are applying better for the surface to have strong force and long life?

Thank you very much again!

Best regards

What I meant is that this site is only about metal finishing and we are not competent to comment on Belleville spring design issues, including material selection--but that you do need to be aware that metal finishing causes hydrogen embrittlement and you therefore need to perform embrittlement relief services (baking) as you finish these parts. So, if these parts are acid treated, electrocleaned, or electroplated, then improper baking or lack of baking after these processes may be causing the problem.

Joyfeng..

Did you manage to identify the Belleville spring in the Suzhou area?

Thanks.
