Stainless Steel spool partially rusted
Hi Experts,
We have many stainless steel spools consist of pipes, fitting and flanges at lay down area where there is no carbon steel welding going on nearby, it has been noticed that only elbows are excessively rusted internally and externally (photos are available for interest).
On the other hand other big diameter pipes surface exhibits contamination on the outer surface by water drops coming from humidity associated rusty looking at the edge of the drop falling down way (Photos available for better explanation).
We are working close to sea, we have carried out chloride test on the outer surface and it gives more than 30 ppm chloride contents on the surface.
Any inputs to explain causes or any suggestions for any additional tests (We are planning to carry out PMI test to confirm piping material) will be highly appreciated.
