Pitting in high phosphorous E/N plating in S.S 410 Material
2005
Dear Sir,
I am a Technical Manager working in an Indian Based co.
During the E/N Plating Process using High Phos. 11% E/N Solution, I encounter pitting problem when we plate a thickness of about 60 Microns on S.S 410 material. With air agitation I am able to reduce the pitting to an appreciable extent. Can you suggest a suitable solution to completely arrest it.What precautions are to be taken. The same E/N Solution doesn't cause pitting in low carbon steel.Pleaser clarify.

If the carbon steel really is not pitting and the 410SS is, then there is something different about the 410SS.
Is the 410SS part a casting? Is it masked with something organic? Is its pretreatment different?
Find the difference and you will probably find the problem.
