Chemical Resistance of 6061 Aluminum
I would like to know what effects acetone

[affil links] Warning! highly Flammable!
vapour has on 6061 aluminum as well as 316 stainless steel. We want to build a slide gate that involves mounting the slide gate on top of a tank for powder charging. The powder will be mixed with acetone. The acetone is piped in through a separate feed line but the fumes could be a problem. We want to know what material we need to use for our slide gate.

Hi Brandon,
I'd imagine that any 'good' metal wouldn't be attacked by your acetone powder mix, especially 3l6 s.s.
But what about Teflon? ... And there's also glass filled teflon for better rigidity ... and maybe (I didn't bother checking) Kynar, sic. PVDF should be OK. Perhaps even PP or hdPe.
The advantage of using these fluorocarbons or polyoelefins is their natural lubricity.
