Battery Acid spill in aluminum boat

Q. On my boat, one of the batteries froze during the winter, the case was split, and all the battery acid drained into the bilge of the aluminum boat.
It is very difficult to get to the bottom of the hull at that point. Could you let me know if I should be worried?

A. The fish are worried and you should be. Acid is terribly corrosive to aluminum. This should be neutralized immediately with a baking soda [in bulk on eBay or Amazon [affil links] solution. For the hard to reach area, maybe you could feed it in with a hose-end plant sprayer this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] on a hose?
