Painting kevlar fabric impregnated with phenolic/PVB resin

Q. We are preparing to manufacture helmets molded from Kevlar fabric impregnated with phenolic/PVB resin. We will be using a water based polyurethane for the finish coats. What is the best method for ensuring that the paint adheres to this material? Are there primers that provide a surface for the finish to adhere to? Should we treat the surface by blasting or chemical etching?
