HARD CHROME PLATING SS 329 duplex SS

We are trying to plate a hydraulic ram made of SS 329 grade but failed to get good adhesion and the plating is peeled all over the component. Please advice on the pretreatment, plating procedure to get good adhesion.

First of two simultaneous responses --

Try using a strike of high chloride nickel known as Wood's. It should activate the SS surface and provide good adhesion.

Hi Vikram

Try Cathodic electrocleaning. Follow with a woods Nickel strike. and then Hard Chrome.

Alternatively
after cathodic cleaning, scrub manually if the cleaning solution was old and used for anodic cleaning as well.

Thereafter rinse well and proceed as above.

In case you wish to avoid the Woods Nickel strike , you need experiment with a short etch followed by a 250 to 350 asf strike. Followed by regular chrome plating.

Regards to all of you.
