How to produce a dull grey finish on anodized aluminum?
I have a small anodizing cell and I want to produce a dull grey finish on anodized aluminum. I have some success when over etching but the finish is still silver in color. I do not particularly want to introduce a dye as this will fade over time. Has anybody any suggestions?

Have you tried etching even deeper? maybe doing a sand/bead blast prior to anodizing?
