Antiquing galvanized roofing material

I want to accelerate the aging of galvanized corrugated metal sheeting to be used for a new construction residential roof. I was able to remove the galvanized coating with muriatic acid. Once I reached the desired look I neutralized the acid with ammonia. I don't know how to stop the metal from continuing to rust. I need a clear product that will adhere to the metal and last in the Arizona weather.

You can use 20 gm tannic acid this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] /15 gm phosphoric acid/1 lit water solution (this is simple and cheap rust converter this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] ). You must lacquer or wax it!

Good luck!

Goran,

Regarding the rust converter this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] solution you listed above, will it work for any oxidized metal? In the reaction caused by it is it removing the oxides from the metals? And what other applications might it have?

Dear Marc!

This solution can be used only on iron and steel.

I am metalwork conservator-restorer and this is one of standard solutions for stabilization of rusted iron.

According to: Bleck,Stambolov,Eichelmann:Korrosion und Konservierung Von Kunst und Kulturgut aus Metall,Weimar 1987.
