SS 316 L suitable for offshore wind generators

Dear sir, I am in little bit confussion for selecting material for my hydraulic cylinder. application is very highly corossive environment. cylinder will be mounted to wind blade which will installed near she shore.

I have decided for ss316l, can you tell me how best this material is corrosive for this application.

I need detail mechanical and chemical properties of ss316 l material.

316L St/St is a low carbon stainless steel containing approx. 18%Cr and 8%Ni with 2 - 3%Mo for added pitting resistance. As such it is a good all round choice.

You say application is highly corrosive; if you mean from sea salt conditions only, I think 316L will be fine. Try to achieve as good a surface finish as possible to reduce likelihood of corrosion initiating.

If application is highly corrosive from moist acidic atmosphere for instance, then you might consider a Monel 400 or 500 Nickel alloy.
