Tin Plating Sticks on Forming Tools

Hello Guys,

I am working for a transistor manufacturing company. Presently, we have a problem during the trimming and forming of our transistor's leads. There seems to be too much sticking of the lead plating (pure Tin on Cu leads) on the forming tool. We are using High Speed Steel (ASP) as our forming tool. The surface finish of the succeeding units are damaged as a result of this accumulated plating residue on the tool. What would be the best thing to do on the Forming Tool to lessen/eliminate sticking of the Tin plating? Is there a better material available for a Formng Tool that stick less to Tin plating? or do we just need to apply some barrier coating to our High Speed Steel tool to achieve this?

Thanks!

Jun Idjao,

I would suggest that you look into PVD coat the tools with CrN coating after fine polishing in the forming direction.

Hope this suggestion help you.
