Surface Blackening of Mild Steel

We face a problem of surface blackening of a mild steel block. Can anybody suggest a method which does not abrade during normal handling ?

Black paint, perhaps? In addition to paint there is powder coating, porcelaining, black nickel, black chrome, salt bath nitriding, zinc plating with black chromating, and probably a number of other technologies.

Porcelain and black chrome would be among the more expensive and most wear resistant. Your question is probably too vague for a good answer, Narayan. Good luck.
