18/8 Stainless Steel removes the smell of garlic

Q. I recently purchased a bar called "rub away" (made in China) from a company called Amco. we give it to the employees to rub their hands with to remove the smell of garlic when processing food manually. How does it work? It is 18/8 stainless steel

Q. Sorry if there have been previous questions on this topic but... I'm sure I've read somewhere about a 'magical' bar of 'stainless steel' which is used to remove onion or garlic odours from the hands.

Does anyone have any firm evidence of this, or any other information on how it works?

What grade of stainless? 300 series?

What is doing the odour removal? Ti,Se,S?

Is surface finish, passivation or composition important?

Regards

"Stainless Steel Soap"

A. I bought my wife one as a stocking stuffer for Christmas. So far I think it works and she doesn't, but she's still open-minded and will try it again.

Mine cost me about $6. It's the size and shape of an almost worn out bar of soap. It's made of shiny non-magnetic stainless steel. That's all I can say so far.
