Batch Annealing for continuous galvanizing

2004

Dear Sir,

My query concerns continuous galvanizing process;

I would like to know if it is possible to galvanize cold rolled steel coils (on hot-dip continuous galvanizing line) after batch annealing process. is this practice valid technically?

Please Advise

The British Steel Corp. (don't think it exists as that name anymore) had batch annealing bays adjacent to one of their Galvanizing lines. I believe the coils went straight to Galvanising after batch anneal. If you can track down the Port Talbot or Margam steel works in South Wales, UK., on the web, and chat with one of their Metallurgists, I'm sure you'll get the info your looking for.

As a rather crude comparison, the job shop galvanizing industry has been using black annealed wire for racking purposes as long as I can remember. The wire galvanizes just fine. One would assume your cold rolled sheet to perform the same.

Dr Mr. Sameh El Tahan
Though this is too late to answer this query as you could have got an answer for it. It is possible to galvanize Batch annealed coils but you can not expect good properties from these coils also you may face adherence problems.
