Anodising Hi-Fi Fascias
2004
Please can anyone describe the processes commonly employed to anodize hi-fi fascias in silver and black? The aluminium fascia would first be surface grained¦ on a flat/wide belt sander. Would there be any differences in the processes when used on 6082, 6063, or 6463 alloys (which have a decorative anodising rating of fair, good, and excellent respectively)?
We ask these questions here because we are getting conflicting answers from different anodising sub-contractors.
We are a startup OEM in the Personal Computer and Consumer Electronics industry. We design and (sub-contract) manufacture enclosures for these markets.

Regarding, "surface grained on a flat/wide belt sander", just be sure that the belt is not used on any other metal including steel. Dirty heavily used old belts imbed non-aluminumm particals into the surface which subsequently have to be heavily etched out which mars the grain. So keep the belts aluminum designated, fresh and clean ! Aluminum Oxide belts would be best.
