Cheap home repair of chromed trumpet

2004

I just purchased a Chrome plated trumpet through our local Police Dept at their yearly charity auction of unclaimed recovered goods.

Two areas, including of course the serial number, had the chrome removed down to the brass. Some type of grinding tool was used. I realize that a full re-chrome might be needed, but is there some repair that can be made to prevent the brass from corroding (epoxy?) and then I can use some hobby paint to cover that?

Any suggestions?

First of two simultaneous responses --

You can use imitation silver foil (or aluminum foil), glue it to selected area with cyanoacrylate cement, colur can be modified with some dyed lacquer!

Good luck!

Second of two simultaneous responses -- 2004

It might be patchable using brush plating, but it is probably quite tricky. Brush plated repairs can be invisible at best, and a band aid at worst.

A good pH neutral polish and wax should remove any oxidisation and stop it from deteriorating any further.

A plating repair would not be particularly cheap.
