What is Jones Reagent
What is "jones reagent"? WHAT IS ITS FUNCTION? can you explain it in detail? Can it oxidate alcohol to be ketone or aldehyde?

Jones reagent is an acidic solution of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)). It is a powerful and indiscriminative oxidising agent that will oxidise primary alcohols to carboxylic acids and secondary alcohols to ketones. So, in theory you are correct in as much as it does oxidise primary alcohols to aldehydes, but they are quickly oxidised further to the carboxylic acid.

Hi,
I want to know whether jones reagent is selective in oxidation if more than one functional groups are present. Is there any reagent better than jones which is easily available or prepared in the lab for selective oxidation of OH to keto in 1,5 cyclooctandiol. Can we store it for longer time?
