Alternative to Cadmium plating on High strength steels

2004

To fall in line with customer requests, I have been tasked with sourcing an alternative to cad plating on our high stressed parts. Materials in question are Maraging Steel (DTD5212). Due to the Hydrogen build up in plating, and the resultant high temperatures for de-imbrittlement, we wish to stay away from 'plating' processess. We are looking at various IVD processess, namely aluminium at present. The purpose of the cad on this particular component is as a corrosion preventative.

Has anybody any experience of sourcing alternatives for cad, as corrosion prevention, applied to high strength steels.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

First of two simultaneous responses -- 2004

There's an excellent article in the December issue of Metal Finishing on IVD aluminum by Vernon Holmes and Mike Bridger.

Second of two simultaneous responses --

Have you looked into mechanical plated cad or other metal. No H2 embrittlement from plating.
