Duration of salt fog/spray test for accelerated corrosion in aluminum
Hello,
I am working on a project dealing with simulation of corrosion in Al2024-T3 lap joint specimens. I am using a Q-fog, cyclic corrosion tester (CCT 600). I wanted to know about the test procedures for salt fog testing, the duration of which has a direct relationship with the duration in real life corrosion. I have gone through test procedures like ASTM B368, ASTM B117, ASTM G85, but they do not give any information about the relation with real life corrosion.
I will be grateful if anyone can suggest something in this regard.
With best regards,

This is one of the perennial questions at this site, and the answer is that there is no relationship at all, Shridhar.
Salt fog testing is a quality control measure to insure that the parts have been processed properly, it is not an indication of actual field life. All it does, at best, is indicate that the processing of the parts was not defective and therefore they probably should last as long as the previous run of parts lasted.
