Our company uses an automotive paint finish over galvannealed sheetmetal. With the costs of steel rising quickly I'm trying to find ways to bring down our costs. When the product is in our paint department it is prepped by grinding the surface of the steel with 36 grit sanding discs which essentially eliminates the A60 galvannealed coating. I'm trying to convince the people who make these decisions that we should be using galvanized steel instead. Are there any reasons why galvanneal would still be a better choice? I'm in no way an expert on metals and finishing so I'm looking to you guys for some guidance and I thank you in advance for your help.

Galvanneal is just galvanized in which iron has been added to the molten zinc bath. This improves paintability. Your best bet is to determine why so much sanding has to be done and try to reduce this.
