Chrome rework on extruded bronze

2004

Hello, we currently purchase an off-the-self "tension catch" that we use to retain a user interface GUI (front panel) on our medical ventilator. The supplier has made minor dimensional changes to the mounting holes and our front panel is molded, we do not want to modify the tooling. So we are going to rework the tension catch by elongating the counter sunk mounting holes. The part finish is dull chrome, base material is extruded bronze. No specifics are given in the data sheets.

My question is can I just replate with chrome or do I need to totally strip the part first then rechrome. or is there some other option other than chrome. cosmetics is not an issue only corrosion prevention.

Thanks,

It may be repairable with selective plating, but ideally the piece should be stripped and replated for a guaranteed continuous seal.
