Certification for pickling and passivation of stainless steel
I own a company that is specialized in producing custom-made stainless steel products for the mega yacht industry. For the treatment of our own products we use pickling and passivation to avoid rust at places that are not polished.
More and more, we get requests from clients for pickling and passivation only. We enjoy the extra turnover that we get from this specific type of work. Lately we are asked more and more to supply a certificate along with our work.
Our company is not ISO certificated, and we are not planning to do this on short term.
My first question is: is there a way to convince my clients that we supply quality work and refer to the quality described in a standard?
Second question: I have in mind to make a certificate of my own, in which I state that I have worked according to ASTM A967-01e1. Is this legal and sufficient or are there better ways?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions/advice!

Metal finishing shops were issuing certifications long before the current popularity of ISO registration. ISO is not claiming that you did the work in accordance with a spec, you are. I don't know of any legal or ethical reason that you can't provide a cert. How valuable your customers will find it is an open and fluid question though.
