Absence of plating/dullness at low current density area

2004

I am facing the problem in Nickel plating

Absence of plating/ dullness at Low current density area

please suggest me

Thanking you,

My suggestion is to run hull cell panels and tell us quantitatively what you mean by low current density areas. It is to expected that you will get no nickel plating inside very deep recesses, but you should get bright plating over a fair range of current density.

Check your bath constituents particularly for Chloride.

Jig your parts effectively to control current distribution as well. Ensure no metallic impurities as well as low brightener /higher additive concentrations and/or use a chelating agent as well.

Hi Savitha,

The most probable reason for skip plating at low current area is, deficiency of boric acid, which in a Watts Nickel should be 35 to 45 gms per litre.

The other reason might be any of the following: low pH / low temperature/oxidant contaminant like chromium/low current.

Pl feel free to ask more questions.
