Anodizing of ASTM B348 Titanium
Q. Can Titanium Grade 2, ASTM B348 Bar be anodized? If so what is the industry name & standard that it is performed to?

A. A spec for alkaline anodizing of titanium is AMS 2488, Andrew. Titanium is alkaline anodized for anti-galling treatment and other engineering purposes, but it is also anodized in mild acids as a decorative finish (the titanium oxide is transparent and applied to a partial wavelength thickness, which creates interference coloration in the various ROY G BIV colors.

Q. Hello,
Is there a spec for titanium anodizing for structural adhesion application for the aerospace industry?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Sharon. Please see letter 9366, which seems to suggest that AMS 2488 is applicable for structural adhesion.
