Chromate conversion coating on zinc plated steel
Hello: Does adding a chromate conversion coating to a zinc plated steel enclosure will interfere with the enclosure's EMI protection? I am familiar with ASTM B633, but the spec. does not describe the EMI effects of adding a chromate conversion coating. Thank you Matt Wise

I've never heard that it has any effect, and don't think it does.

Hi Matt ,
All the people that I know that plate Enclosures for electronic equipment , yellow chromate treat the Zinc Plating and have never had any problems , but for other reasons a lot of them are now switching
(no pun intended) to semi - bright Nickel plating
