THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF ANODIZE?
WHAT IS THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF ALUMINUM OXIDE(ANODIZE). ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATIVE. THANKS.

T.R. Ogden wrote several papers on the thermal conductivity of anodic oxide coatings on aluminum, based on work he did at the Naval Ocean Systems Center in San Diego in ~1986. One was published in Materials Letters, Volume 5, number 3, Feb. 1987. He reported typical values for hard anodizing of 0.5 to 1 W/mK (compared to 30 W/mK for bulk polycrystalline alumina). The huge difference appears to be due to the fact that anodizing is amorphous, porous, and "contaminated" with sulphate.
