How would I make a spoon rust?

Q. I'm looking to make a spoon rust. I have a friend who has a strange joke about a rusty spoon and I'd love to give him a rusty spoon as a gift. I can't find a rusty spoon anywhere, so the next best thing is to make it rust myself ... So, How do I make my spoon rust?!

A. Rub a regular spoon for about an hour with 00 steel wool this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] . This will embed some fine steel in the spoon surface which will rust starting with tiny spots and then spread over the surface of the spoon. Don't wash it. just dip it in a glass of water with one spoonful of common salt and half a teaspoon of vinegar in bulk on eBay or Amazon [affil links] . Set the spoon outside where the dew will keep it moist at night. Redip the spoon daily in your acidified salt water. It may take up to a couple of weeks.

thumbs up signWhoever you are, I love you. My friend is almost the same thing. The "I like rusty spoons" is actually from "Salad Fingers" a badly drawn cartoon on a couple of websites. I have a friend who wants a rusty spoon as a christmas gift (please don't mention how late it is) and I have the same problem! I tried letting them sit in BLEACH for a few DAYS and absolutely nothing happened! I was expecting them to corrode to nothing. Well I wish I could find a way to EASILY rust spoons, I found this very entertaining. Byebye!

Hi. You can't make a silver or silver plated spoon rust; and as you see, it's hard to make a stainless steel one rust. But I have an old copper-nickel-chrome plated STEEL spoon that rusts although I don't want it to.

It's really funny because my friends birthday is coming up and she likes the little Mermaid; it's a joke between us. We also have a joke about Salad fingers and rusty spoons. So for her birthday I found a Little Mermaid spoon and I wanted to rust it as a joke. When I clicked on this site I expected some science website with like some scientific experiment about rusting spoons or something, so it was funny to see that people have the same joke as my friend and I. =] <3 Scarlet

thumbs up sign  My girlfriend recently confessed she has a kink for rusty spoons. As our anniversary is coming up next month, I am going to surprise her and make a few spoons up to her standard. It took a lot for her to confess this to me, so I want to make sure she knows what turns her on turns me on too. This was exactly what I was looking for - a concise and useful answer. Thank you - from both me and morgan ;)

Hi Claudia. I think you submitted your posting with a fictitious name and we usually discard those because it runs counter to our mission of camaraderie and aloha ... but we went ahead and posted it anyway because everybody recognized you and Morgan from your fetish :-)

Happy anniversary!
