What Weldable Super Corrosion Resistant Alloy is Available in 20 Gauge Sheet?
I have a chemical plant requiring my ceramic magnet assembly be inserted in fiberglass pipe with very low pH muriatic acid solution at 220 deg F. The customer says Hastelloy fails. If Titanium is suggested, is it spot-weldable? Thanks in advance for any help.

You have not provided sufficient details on the problem. What I can tell you is that corrosion of Ti is highly dependent on the concentration of HCl, as well as other factors like temperature, presence of other ions, etc. Also, Ti is capable of being resistance spot welded, using similar practices and weld schedules as austenitic stainless steels. I would discuss this application with someone from Timet, which has quite a bit of technical information available on its website.

You did not specify the concentration and temperature of the muriatic and the type of Hastelloy. There are at least ten different Hastelloys, two of which are considered superior in resistance to hydrochloric acid (B-2 and B-3). If these also fail, then be prepared to spend top dollars for precious metal. Gold and platinum are among the few metals resistant to hydrochloric at high concentration and temperature (also graphite though not a metal).
