Recommend a book on anodizing

Hi.

I am considering purchasing a book listed in your booklist. My intention is to dabble with anodizing at a hobby level for now - just to get an idea of the complexity of the process and see what results I can achieve before making a decision to invest in a more permanent setup. Which book from the list (or other) would you consider best for this purpose to get me going? Your opinions please and thank you in advance.

Michael Georgiadis
Fishing Reels - Durban, Kzn, South Africa
2004

Considering scope vs. very low cost, my first choice for you would be the Metal Finishing Guidebook. This will cover not just anodizing, but the related processes like cleaning, activation, post treatments, waste management, and testing.

www.focuser.com/anodize.html. This is a great web page for anodizing, with a Yahoo forum available. Outstanding moderators.

Thanks, Ray. It's a very interesting webpage with nice pictures and some good explanations, and the hints to buy his products and instruction books are tasteful. Interested hobbyists should take a look.

But like most such web pages, it does fall short of answering Mr. Georgiadis' needs by ignoring disposal, regulations, required permits, and laws. Hobbyists are at some risk of trouble with the law regarding sewer permits; and while their violations may be minor, they really should look at something like the Metal Finishing Guidebook to understand the situation.

You'll love this book. Finishing.com has sold almost a thousand copies without a single return request :-)

Everyone in metal finishing should have the Guidebook. The price is right for what you get.

If you want do do well in your hobby, also buy the Light Metals Finishing Process Manual by Montgomery and Grubbs. It is in a three ring binder and lightly covers everything you should think of. You get it from AESF. PS, the price of this book is right also, compared to some of the other books on the market.
