Cleaning Fuel Tanks with Muriatic Acid (automotive)
My son and I are restoring an old pickup for him to drive when he gets his license. While repairing the fuel system we discovered that the fuel tanks were coated on the inside with rust, not having the funds on hand to buy new ones we wanted to clean and reuse them.I was told that muriatic acid
⇦ this on
eBay or
Amazon [affil links] is used to clean fuel tanks and was wanting to know about safety and usage before I attempted this own my own.I also found out that some radiator shops do this, but as I said earlier we are on a tight budget so we try to do as much as possible.
Any help on this would be appreciated, thank you very much ,

No, don't mess with acid for that application. If the tanks can be removed, you can fill them with pebbles and tumble them as described in letter 9428 or use electrolysis as described at users.eastlink.ca/~pspencer/nsaeta/electrolysis.html
