Sticking PVC on heating plate
2004
I have PVC sticking onto the heating plate; the manufacturer said the heating plates are made of aluminium w/o any coating. My question is--
1. Is it possible to have heating plate w/o any coating ?
2. what is the most probable cause of sticking ?
3. The spec says the plate are E'less Ni Plate 0.0025mm.
Can anyone please tell me what it means?
Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure if I understand, Nelcom (full name, please!), but it sounds like the resin manufacturer is telling you that the heating plates need to be electroless nickel plated to a minimum thickness of .0025mm (which sounds too thin, are you sure it's not .025 mm?) to avoid sticking whereas you are using plain aluminum plates instead.

Hi Nelcom,
The heating plates are nbg ... of course the PVC will stick to them!
Forget the electroplated coating ... they should have been coated with Teflon to prevent sticking.
You might get away, for a short time, by having a mirror finish or an ultra smooth surface but standard heating plates for PVC fusion, for example, must be coated with a 'release' agent such as a fluorocarbon.

Both heating plates (top & bottom) are of ALuminium, thts for sure. its not a smooth or mirror surface. I've change to diff grade of PVC, reajusted the alignment etc.. it did become better, but once I cold start it in the morning, everything starts to stick again.
Pls help.
Thank you agn in advance.

Nelcom,
Something that we did ALL THE TIME was to wipe down the heater plates with a 'denim', ie. a cloth-cloth NOT a plastic cloth.
This was done after EVERY fusion when the plate was still hot ... and any PVC residue would be easily cleaned off.
Try that ... it should succeed ... but why the supplier didn't coat your plates beforehand beats me! He should be, figuratively speaking, hung, drawn and quartered.
